Rodent Control is Necessary to Protect Your Landscaping Investment

You need rodent control when you notice small or large mounds or lines of loose soil in your backyard where there used to be nice lawn, are missing plants or parts of them. There are moles and voles, chipmunks and squirrels, gophers, rabbits, and others that are known to destroy your landscape. When you have put hundreds if not thousands of dollars into a beautiful yard and landscape, that last thing you want to have happen is for it to be destroyed.

Moles and Voles

Moles and voles look similar but they eat different things so their motivation to dig is a little different. Insects, worms, grubs and other yummy things that live in the dirt are what moles are after. They don’t eat the roots of anything but they destroy the landscape with the network of tunnels they create as they search for their next meal. The tunnels eventually damage the roots of things that are growing above the surface of the soil. Voles on the other hand are looking for vegetation. They will eat bark off of trees, bulbs under your flowers and the roots of the grass and plants they come into contact with.

Chipmunks and Squirrels

Chipmunks are diggers and not only dig up things planted in the ground they will also make room for nests in foundations and retaining walls. Squirrels can be very destructive to landscaping and structures as they look for food. They don’t mind chewing through wire, insulation, wood, and roofing shingles to find what they are looking for. Their nest building can also cause extensive damage.

Gophers and Rabbits

Gophers can get up to around a foot long and love to dig tunnels while they are looking for roots and yummy things above ground as well. If you watch long enough you may even see a plant slowly sink into the surface of your landscaping as it is pulled into one of their tunnels so they can eat their latest booty in privacy. Rabbits are looking for food as well and will help themselves to any tender plants you have included in your landscape. Rodent control is well worth the money you will pay to protect your investment.
